7 Months Old!

Adam is 7 months old today! As you can tell from the picture, he's a happy little guy and cute as a bug! At 7 months, here's what he's up to:
- Rolling where he needs to go
- Loves to sit and play with toys- anything he can put in his mouth
- Loves his mom best and then his sister and dad
- Thinks feeding himself is the best
- Hates being dressed or putting his bib on
- Screams at loud noises like the vacuum, blow dryer, and blender
- Laughs at the funny things his sister says
- Waves

Happy 7 months old little guy!

Congratulations Dr. Nicholas P. Schmidt!

Big things are happening for Nick and Nina. On June 3, Nick successfully defended his dissertation. As a result, Nick now holds a PhD in entomology from Iowa State University. 10 years of diligence to difficult undergraduate and graduate work has paid off - congratulations!

And with Nina working, and Nick off and running on a post-doc appointment, they've upgraded from their small home in Ames to a gorgeous new house north of Des Moines. The future looks bright!

So Proud

Tonight Elizabeth made the letter "E."Every time that I ask her to make an "E," she usually makes a bunch of lines which appear to be a backwards "E." I asked her to make one tonight, and I could see the light bulb in her head as she watched me make the letter. I think I was more excited by this than her first steps! (She then proceeded to make backwards "E," so we still have work to do!)

Rollin'

Adam hates being on his tummy, so we assumed that he would never roll onto his tummy. We've tried to encourage him with all of his favorite toys, but he stubbornly refuses. Today was a big day because he finally rolled from his back to his tummy.

All the parenting magazines say that the second child's milestones are often less celebrated by parents. Not the case for Adam. He waited for his fanfare, as there were three people sitting by him, clapping, and cheering him on. He was very excited by all the attention. (And would clap for himself when he was on his back!) Good job little guy!

Funny

Yesterday Elizabeth bumped her head on the floor and said, "Mom, my head has a tummy ache." Too cute.
